Our Artisans and Partner Communities

HeritageFinds Clothing’ flagship collection showcases the textile arts and embroidery of the Tingguian tribe of Abra Province, Philippines. Also known as the Itneg indigenous group, they are one of eight major indigenous groups in the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR). Our partner artisans in Abra incorporates hand embroidery and natural dyeing into their textile art. Loom weaving techniques such as backstrap and foot pedal were practiced by women weavers, on top of their domestic and agricultural duties; however most weaving now is done by foot pedal loom. Today our weaving communities can be found in municipalities like La Paz and Manabo.

The Itneg practices natural dyeing techniques using organic materials such as leaves, tree bark, and flowers. Major plant sources for the dyes, grown in the province, are malatayum plant and sapang tree barks which produce indigo and pink colors, respectively.
The unique embroidery of the Itneg depicts their way of life and mythological beliefs. They form a core part of the symbolism of their heritage craft, revealing a profound connection to land and nature and the community around them.

The intricate patterns woven by the Itneg artisans are not just beautiful designs but reflections of their rich cultural identity. Each symbol represents a piece of their history, mythology, or daily life. Their motifs such as frogs, rivers, mountains, and dancing figures carry deep meaning within their community. These symbols tell stories of abundance, protection, and harmony with nature, passed down through generations.
This storytelling through textile art will allow you, through your purchase of HeritageFinds, to carry a piece of the Itneg's cultural narrative with you. Through your support, we help promote awareness and appreciation for this age-old craft.
