What is modern Filipiniana?
Modern Filipiniana refers to the traditional garments worn by Filipinos, for
formal occasions and events. For women, this can be in the form of a
formal blazer or blouse with puff sleeves or the baro’t saya, usually
adorned with embroidery and beadwork. For men, these are the barong shirt
which comes in semi-formal and formal styles. In recent times, the traditional Filipino wear has seen more modern designs using diverse Philippine weaves and materials.
What are our products made from?
Our curated designs are created using traditional weaves from Abra Province and Ilocos such as kantarines, tiniri, binakol and brocade weaves (pinilian), using cotton and a mix of recycled fibers and natural dyes across our collections. They are also collectively known as "inabel" due to the shared textile influences of the two regions.
Woven textiles (called hinabi or habi in Tagalog) from the Abra Province and the Cordillera Region are still
produced using foot pedal loom and some by backstrap loom.
HeritageFinds will featured more weaves as we expand our collaboration with other communities in the Philippines.
How do you care and wash our pieces?
*To wash, we recommend hand wash and dry clean only. The safest method
of ensuring good care of the items is by handwashing. Lightly soak the piece in cold or lukewarm water and gently clean using a mild
detergent.
*Avoid wringing or twisting to ensure the items retains their shape. Wash out the detergent fully before hanging to dry, avoiding direct sunlight.
*We strongly recommend that you do not tumble dry as this can damage the handwoven embroidery.
Ironing and Storage: Carefully iron in medium heat at the back of the garment. To store, lay flat and
then store or hang in the closet.
